Could there have been a better place than the pastures of Pré-Giroud for keeping watch over the German patrols on top of the Mont-d'Or?
Pré-Giroud fortress also comprises three smaller forts, fitted with machine guns and linked by underground tunnels. There are also observation posts, a provisions shop, a machinery room and shelter for up to 130 men, with artillery posts, telephones, an operations room, an infirmary, a kitchen, and dining and sleeping quarters. The fortress now belongs to a foundation. The guided tour takes approximately one and a half hours, and visitors are advised to wear good hiking shoes! The temperature inside the Fort is between 8 and 10° C.

From April to October.

How to get there:
By car: take the "semi-motorway" to Vallorbe, then follow the brown signs which appear as you enter the village. There is a car park near the entrance of the Fortress.
On foot: there are signposted hiking trails from Vallorbe train station (15 minutes).
