The Bernina Express travels the highest railway transversal in the Alps.
It begins on the attractive stretch of the famous Glaciers Express at 8:48 am and ends in Tirano, Italy at 12:40 pm. With its 70 pro mille gradient, it is one of the steepest rail stretches in the world without cogwheel operation. Within just a few hours, travelers get a glimpse of every vegetation zone between the glaciers of the Piz Bernina (4,049 m above sea-level) and the palms of Tirano (429 m)
